Yep, age teaches us that. It’s easy for us to say but harder for a young person to walk that road. I like that this story line seems to be supporting our troops, btw!
Although, kind of odd. “Oh, I’m so furious I am going to pick up one of the clubs and throw it!” “No, I mean I am going to swing it in a golf shot style motion!” An odd action, but of course it sets up Gil to save the day. It’s just what Steve needs, if he takes up golf nobody will pay any attention to him since there are tons of one-armed golfers on the course at all times.
Those aren’t Dubya’s wars, Lureman. They are America’s wars. Obama keeps sending American troops over there to die, just like the previous president. Do you ever ask yourself WHY no one ever blames Obama for any of those deaths? And just for the record, what exactly is it you do to support the troops?
With all due respect, guys, one of the reasons I read comics is to escape the Hype’N’Blame of our political system. By all means, debate them to your hearts’ content – but do it somewhere else, please…
We all see where this is going. Gil teaches Steve the game, because we all know that a golf course is one of the few locations where random profanity is considered part of the natural ambiance. (Why did they name it “golf”? Because all the other 4-letter words were taken.) Steve develops well enough to compete in the Milford Open, where he is caddied by the ever-supportive Molly Kinsella. The “one-armed hero” pity response among the population is transformed into a “one-armed golfer” amazement response, which pulls Steve from his funk. He won’t win the tournament, but Gil will wrap a satisfied smile around a personalized coffee cup as he watches Steve break par, but finish comfortably in the middle of the pack; the bigger victory has already been won.
In complete agreement with Wesmorgan. As noted before, this message board is one of the only ones left in America where conservatives and liberals don’t bash each other. Long may it stay that way.

From P2 to P3, Ol’ Gil turned that frown upside down. Snoopy’s little friend Woodstock made that !! comment famous.

@LuremanRight on, Lureman. Dubya’s wars for sure, which he conveniently passed on to Obama so the right wing could blame O for them.

Coach Thorp has the correct idea. We old veterans sometimes lose sight of the best way to handle bad situations.
