    Begging isn’t the only option. He could make a living on talk shows talking about his misfortunes at the hands of the government conspiracy. Or he could write a memoir. It’s been done.

    The R’s have a plan to solve that. Remove the dirt around the wall. This give Humpty more time to fall the additional distance and thus to plan for a mattress in the hole…of course, buying a matress would be voluntary.

    @TheTrustedMechanic

    Many, many thanks for your post yesterday concerning the sorry state of the Post Office. You were so right on. Have not seen or heard much defense of the P.O. anywhere.Have some first-hand knowledge of the P.O., and would like to add a few thoughts.“Neo-con hatred of P.O. stems from the fact that it is heavily unionised”. Absolutely correct-APWU,,NALC,NPMHU,.Of course they hate the unions it’s their desire to privatise the P.O. and has been for years. They want to turn all postal jobs into McJobs,because unions have succeeded in winning the argument for paying LIVING WAGES. Can’t have any of that. Union membership nationwide for all workers in all jobs is about 10%. !% loves this.Some years back, Marvin Runyon , former head of the Tennessee Valley Authority, became Post Master General, and was the 1st to want to “run the P.O. like a business”. The P.O. has never been the same since.He personally had uber-wealth and, assuming command, suggested putting Coke machines in every P.O. in the country. Guess what? He owned stock in Coca Cola, and when called on for this proposal, said he" didn’t find this to be a conflict of interest". Get this next one. Congress, at the behest of the 1%, decided to make the P.O. prefund 75 years of future retiree benefits in a 10 year period, aimed at driving the P.O. into bankruptcy, thus forcing privatisation. Public has been fed the crap that the internet has cut into the P.O. True to an extent, but 1st class mail makes up only10% of P.O. revenue.Ever notice how much ad and catalog mail is still being stuffed into your mailbox? Not to mention magazines, small parcels, etc? That’s where it’s at.Not to mention that untold numbers of jobs have been farmed out to private firms who process 1st class , then shipping it back to nearby P.O.’s for shipment. Employees here are not paid living wages, of course, and private mailers have been the guiding force behind calls for privatisation and lobbying efforts in D.C. Since they account for so much of the P.O. volume, they feel it their right to call the shots, universal service and the public be damned.Oh, and was it mentioned that private mailers also pay a reduced rate (at least 10 cents lower, per 1st class letter to the P.O. for their wonderful service?Myself and a guy on the dock figured up the money saved on 1 skid 1 skid! of 1st class mail from a private mailer at about $2500, based on number of 1st class letters in one tray and multiplying that by number of trays on skid.Do you know how many untold thousands of such skids are shipped nationwide, daily? The revenue loss to the P.O. is beyond my capability to compute.And the equipment used by privates was paid for by the P.O. , which paid for the technology and cost of developing the processing equipment. Great, huh?The P.O has been an unbelievable positive force for the whole economy-uniform manufacturers, print shops , contracted trucking services,etc., and the capitalists want to wreck it.Hope that have not put anyone off with this post, but needed to put the truth out there, and you were the target of today’s rant, and hope others will read as well to know the true story.Also feel for the carriers who catch hell daily, having to do more with less, constantly squeezed to"improve efficiency" ad nauseam.And they’re the guys (and gals) who are the front line troops. Good grief, Charlie Brown.Thanks for your defense and best wishes. Wished to speak out for postal workers every where and the public. Many thanks.

    AKHenderson: That’s where the whole “grassy knoll shooter” thing fell apart. In order to escape, such a shooter would have to climb a six foot wall with a rifle and cross a railroad switchyard within view of an FBI agent on the Triple Underpass plus an unknown number of Dallas and railroad police in the yard.

    @Sharuniboy

    Thanks for reading through all those lined areas in the post to TheTrustedMechanic. It’s most annoying-don’t know how it happened, couldn’t fix it, and was too long to redo.Still readable, but annoying in the extreme. And really hoped some would wade through it to know where the truth really is.FedEx and UPS are largely into packages and do well with that. Present day package mail is 3rd class at the P.O.,and service via Parcel Post is a bit slow, but as long as you’re not in a hurry, a pretty good buy. Priority Mail is really good service, pretty quick, and cheaper than FedEx or UPS.FedEx has contracted with the P.O. and now flies all airmail- a guaranteed income flow and great for profits.Used to go on commercial flights, but airlines prioritised passengers, and often left mail down the list of priorities, languishing in air terminals, delaying the mail. The fix was FedEx.$5 billion in losses in the last few quarters is due largely to the retiree prefunding requirement imposed by Congress, the 1% and bulk mailers+their lobbyists" demands for privatisation.Of course, this sinister cabal tries to dupe the public that the losses are due in large part to employee payrolls and unions.Give me a break.The P.O. receives NO TAX MONEY. It is supported solely by sales of stamps and other postal services, and revenue from bulk mailers, who get hefty discounts on the 1st class, magazines,and assorted junk mail as it is.That’s why you find so much junk mail in your mailbox. They’ve got a pretty sweet deal.!st class mail may be down,but overall volume is well up there. Just ask your carrier.As far as late deliveries to your house, my carrier got here at 6:15 P.M. one night this week and likely caught hell from his supervisor.Most carriers start at 7:30 A.M., so anything after 4:00 P.M. is overtime. Management allows for 2 hours overtime a day, because they figure it’s cheaper to work the hell out of the carriers than to hire enough carriers for them all to finish by 4:00 P.M.If a carrier calls in sick, his route is split up among 3-4 or more carriers in the area. Like everything else in this crippled country, its all about MONEY, and the rich getting richer, all the while being patriotic Americans and dodging all taxes they possibly can,and stashing their money in the Cayman’s, Bermuda, Swiss bank accounts, and God only knows where else, condemning lazy American workers and unions. They get in the way of profits, ego inflation, and mega-billionaire status. Please watch MSNBC (The Ed Show, Lawrence O’Donnell, Al Sharpton, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews,and a host of other great people. They deal with crap and politics in depth FAIRLY every day. Much about the reep plans to wreck what remains of the country. Personally watch every day, online.

    You mentioned in a post (believe yesterday) Ryan’s adoration of Ayn Rand, who believed that the poor should be regarded as"lice " and “parasites”.Personally know nothing about her and don’t care to.She has also been reported to be a Russian atheist.One of the MSNBC hosts (can’t remember which) mused about the HOLY HELL that would be raised if Obama idolised a woman with these beliefs who was a Russian atheist.Can you imagine the scene?

    Thanks for your great post. Didn’t see it as it came through as a couple of other responses were being typed.Your wife has a tough job as a Canadian postie, am sure, and it’s going to be a long time before you’ll be able to stash your money in the Caymans and open a Swiss bank account at the rate of $1 per parcel, but am pulling for you both.Wow. Really thought they did better by the peasants north of the border. Your wife gets the wear and tear on her car, while the bigs save on buying a vehicle for her (in a Canadian winter) Good grief,.And no OT on the 2nd run at Christmas, and you’re supposed to have a happy holiday?Actually, do the same with many rural carriers here. Hope they’re not out to destroy the healthcare system up there the way they are here. What they’re trying to wreck here doesn’t even come close to yours.and anything coming close to European healthcare is pie in the sky and the stuff of dreamers.Best wishes to you both and many thanks for this report from north of the border.

    Many thanks for your post to me. Was definitely not aware of this fact, and had ASSUMED (always a mistake), and called on for this mistake in a comment made by me in another strip- yet continue to err- that Texas was solidly RED.Wow. Just when had felt that we had lost Texas for all time. There’s still hope, after all..Really mean this, as we really need deliverance from reep views. The old Confederacy has been turned from reliably Dem to reliably reep.Used to be a Civil War buff, and sided largely with the South, though being a Yankee myself. So admire the men that fought that war, though after being in service myself and seeing how the U.S. has defined itself, would now declare myself a Conscientious Objector., and have nothing to do with war and the enrichment of Wall Street (wars are great for profits). Had hoped to see a post from you as you had posted to me regarding the pyramids of Egypt.. Thanks much for your input, but still can’t figure out how they could be duplicated by construction methods and technology used at the time (then) today. Please help me out with this in a future post, and truly thank you for today’s post.
