Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for July 24, 2012
Transcript:
Alice: Welcome to my house, Guinea Pig. Mr. Danders: Ah, very nice! Alice: This is my mom! Mr. Danders: The woman at the last house would not stop sneezing. Mr Danders: And she vacuumed so relentlessly that I'm sure I suffered oxygen depletion. Alice: You'll love it here! We never vacuum.

He could have munched on the “flower” that attacked Petey.

From what I see in panel 3, Madeline may have to start vacuuming regularly now! (Sorry, Mr. Danders.)

Sorry, I’m not hearing the British accent. If anything, I hear Rodney Dangerfield (or would that be Danderfield?).

My mom never vacuumed either. She would just say “What do you think shovels were invented for?”.

I don’t hear British or Dangerfield, I hear Charles Emerson Winchester III.

Wait…I feel like I’ve missed something. Since when does the guinea pig talk?
CrazyIrishOperaGirl over 12 years ago
Yeah, it kinda does remind me of C&H. Almost makes me wonder if Thompson meant this as a play on that strip. I think I had heard that he was an admirer of Watterson’s.

That house must be dusty.

In the early days of the strip Mr. D. Appeared a bunch of times, and I never could decide if the adults could hear him or not. I think the animal lady could, but maybe not the other adults.

Yesss! Five cats No dogs. Hair! Let it fly in the breeze and get caught in the trees A home for fleas, a hive for the buzzing bees A nest for birds, there ain’t no words For the beauty, splendor, the wonder of their hair
