I’ve seen a few pit bulls with great poker faces. Walk down the sidewalk and they just stand there looking at you through the chain link fence with no indication at all what they’re thinking. Is that dog wishing I’d reach my hand over the fence and pet him? Is that dog wishing I’d reach my hand over the fence and pull back a nub? Only the dog knows.
Short attention span? Are you kidding me? I’ve seen cats sit motionless, staring at a known hang out for mice for hours on end……The reason some dogs look like they have poker faces is that they don’t know what they think either….Dog minds are like a machine that takes a while to warm up. In the mean time they just bark senselessly ’til it kicks in….
I assume this strip is meant to be a parody of those horrid black velvet paintings of poker-playing dogs? I wonder, if this is the case, why he didn’t draw them with a black background?
What I love is, if you play stare down with a dog, they look away but will check back soon, then away, then glancing at you, then away and keep at it..Stare down with a cat, they will try to look sleepy at first, but if that doesn’t work, they look away and they’re done with you..Dogs show they need you, cats show they don’t.

You’re fooling yourself Robert, the pit bull is always thinking, “Go ahead, make my day.”

You really, really don’t want to play with the cat if he’s named Doc.

Cats may lack the attention span but he’s certainly not lacking the chips.
