BTW, Admiral Arthur and Petty Officer Penelope are permanently barred from my galleon, The Irish Rover. He almost caused a mutiny when he and his wife started singing Gilbert and Sullivan. Her rendition of Sweet Little Buttercup was especially discordant and gut-retching.
Bev — adorable doggie … funny thing it links to another video wherein HE battles a lemon half in almost the same way as the other dog.
My little dog was a schipperke…it means “little skipper,” and they were bred (supposedly) to live on boats.
Great — Firefox spellchecker underlines “schipperke” …and suggests that I spell it C-H-I-P-P-E-R.That’s OK, Firefox…. go to bed. You’re obviously tired.
Meanwhile, no…. the onlt produce I’m missing is what I left out for you and Stel….….. wait…. unless a tomato-stealing dog DID come by.Hope you got enough tomatoes.
I’m starting to get a few on my own plants. Yay!Tomato season is late in these parts….usually late August through early October.
I volunteer at a tomato festival every year…. and it’s not till mid September.Surprises people from the Midwest.
Hey, the election is in FOUR DAYS!How did THAT happen?
Monkey!!!
You said you were off for the Emerald City…. Are you takin’ your Dad back to See-Tack or just showin’ him the Space Needle and stuff. You gonna be able to spare any time for a little glad-handin’ and baby-kissin"?
I’m Back! I know Arthur well. Him and I sailed the seven recliners together many times. His wife always waited at the pier with a pint of ale and a tuna casserole. Ah those were the days!
@Bev and the Linguist – yeah, I know about Schipperkes…. thing is, some breeders believe one thing and some another about their origins. The boat dog story is Dutch, but the dog is called the Belgian schipperke. Some books now say they were herders first, bred down from one of the varieties of Belgian sheepdogs… which would take some breeding, cos there’s about a 75 pound difference.Other books say they were bred from the spitz line…which are Dutch dogs.(Spitz, Keeshond, Samoyed, Pomeranian) … and much more delicate looking.I don’t care where they come from…they’re cute, affectionate, fierce, sturdy and protective, all at once.WAY too smart… and incredibly “busy” little creatures….never a dull moment!
As for the monkey cake… it’s amazing and wonderful…and I’m sure the Monkey would love it…. as sculpture. But … I’m not so sure he’d feel ok about cutting it up and eating it!
Yikes! What if it looks like his uncle or his grandpa or something?
BTW those pebble candies have been around a long time…when I first found them, back in the 70’s, at a fancy candy shop, I was told they were very common in Scandinavia. They look great on boy’s birthday cakes with chocolate cookie crumbs and gummy worms and stuff.
I no longer do cakes that appear to be something else, but have done those as well as many wedding cakes. I made so many for family and friends over the years. I know next to nothing about boating, but here we are relaxing with family during the day. We should get together more often.
Sorry, Bev… after awhile, when you didn’t say anything, I wandered off myself.
I thought you’d probably gone to bed or something — I stay up so late, compared to everybody else.
It’s midnight there now…. but I’ll drop by and if it looks like you’re asleep, I’ll just let myself into the carriage house (thanks!)..and in the morning we’ll see whether we can find any …um…. screwdriver recipes… OK?I watered everything really well late this afternoon, and then came back out to Ballard Street, so I was intending to spend the night at this end anyhow. And if I’m not sleepy….. even with the Tiki closed…Red’s usually playing guitar or there’s always a party at Storm’s.Sometimes the Linguist’s too…But he thinks I’m scary.LOL.
Dazz… I don’t know whether you’re talking about relaxing with your “real family” or your Ballard Street “family” …but I always like relaxing on Ballard Street.
It’s a crazy place… but that’s somehow soothing, cos there’s no pressure NOT to be …well…. different.
I’ve made all sorts of cakes too … but nothing like the two Stel posted today!
I took pictures of some at the county fair that looked like other things, including one I want to post for the Linguist…but it doesn’t look good only 350 pixels wide. Not as well done as the snake or monkey cakes…. but good.
