Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for September 01, 2012
Transcript:
Alice: Look, Petey, I got some rocks from the parking lot back there! Petey: Uh-oh! Shoplifting! Alice: WHAT? Petey: When they come up short on their gravel inventory, you're in trouble. Alice: No! If Daddy had bought me that big vase then I wouldn't've stolen the gravel! Petey: Is that a siren I hear? Dad: Petey!

When they explain to the cops, there is no way that they would believe them.

Wait…Is Petey kidding?

That’s mean, Petey; not your usual mild-mannered self! (Reminds of a prank a girl and I played on a friend who was driving across Washington, D.C., one day, many moons ago….)

Petey is so devilous.

Troubling logic by Alice: Daddy made me steal, by not getting me what I wanted.

Put the rocks on the floor by the gnome. Your mom will just think the gnome hasn’t been car trained.

The gnome followed them home… I hope we’re not finished with Mr. Gnome quite yet.

The gnome looks angry and determined in the last panel.

The gnome looks absolutely panicked. He is only just learning what he’s in for..

Hard to believe this strip is ending. One of my favorites.

Ah an older sibling tormenting the younger one. Now maybe Alice can understand what paranoia that Petey experiences.

It’s hard to tell when Petey is kidding and when he’s actually that deluded.

My daughter was just like Alice in her love of taking rocks from parking lots. Her pockets would be full of them, and I’d find them in her backpack when she came home from school. Maybe she has a “most wanted” poster hanging somewhere!

So sorry to hear about the Parkingson’s and so sad this strip is coming to an end. Good Luck, Mr. Thompson.

My mom used to bring back BIG rocks from every trip. Used them around the flower beds. She was disappointed she couldn’t bring any from the Grand Canyon and didn’t want to anger Pele and bring any from Hawaii. Did get some from Canada and Mexico though. I’ll still pick up one on a trip if I see one I think she would have liked.

When are you, Alice and everybody going away? I have abandonment issues and have to get ready.

Part of the reason why I think the whole Santa Claus thing is worthless. It’s not a good idea to give children a distorted sense of reality just for one’s own entertainment.
But I digress. This strip was about gravel shoplifting, right?
