Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for September 23, 2012
Transcript:
NATE: Mr. Galvin, I don't think your tests are fair! GALVIN: Oh? And why not? NATE: They're totally based on how many scientific formulas you can memorize! But what if you have trouble memorizing stuff? What if your brain's not wired that way? GALVIN: I see. So your brain simply doesn't retain factual information. NATE: Exactly! Why should I be punished for that? GALVIN: You may be right, Nate. I sometimes have trouble with facts myself. For example, I can never remember how many points Michael Jordan scored in game 4 of the 1993 NBA finals. NATE: 55! Wait, was that right? Wow. What a lucky guess! GALVIN: Sit down, son.

The red nose on the teacher made me remember 2 teachers in particular that I had. Both taught me the most and both were drunks, even in class. The secret was to get the class just before lunch. Morning class, he was hungover and afternoon, he just slept at his desk.

Love the “Sit down, son” that’s showing up here from time to time…….it’s a prelude to :Mister, we have arrived at some valuable truths, which I WILL teach you PRONTO!!!"

btw, today is Richard Thompson’s last CUL DE SAC strip.
Lincoln, thanks again so much for the fine week you put in for Mr. Thompson earlier this year as one of the fine cast of “guest cartoonists”.

If you all get a chance, find Bill Cosby’s ‘Slow Class’ routine and listen to it. I had teachers like Mr. Galvin … wished I’d had more.

I live the big Nate comic books and books. I only have one. I’m waiting for some to be in softcover, and then I’ll buy them. Anyway, I used to be like Nate in this strip. I couldn’t memorize things like that

Do people seriously remember things like these? I never thought people actually remembered the final scores on games or how many points a player scored in a game.
