That saying and the other about “never working” have been around much longer than TV (and YES, I DO remember).
One I like even better, is to always smile as if you’re happy. The reason why differs according to narrator, but my favorite is that others will be infected with your happy mood. I do try to smile through everything and I’ve had the average # of troubles – never as bad if you can keep a smile.
