The first few years I took mine only to a couple of neighbors that we knew and it was halfway light still. Once they figured out that they got candy, it was fun!

My sister is over 12 yrs younger than me and I took her from age 3+ every year. Iā€™ll never forget the first time, me her and a friend were all clowns, we took the stroller just in case she didnā€™t want to walk. I had parked it about 15 feet away while we walked to my friends door and I happened to turn around in time to see a ā€œghostā€ try and take the stroller. I ran up swung my bag and clobbered him aside the head yelling that ā€œmy sister could have been in there and who does he think he was.ā€ The next day I spotted a neighbor boy with his face just covered in speckled bruises. whoops :)

Might have told this one before on this site, but this being the Season and all, here goes: When we were fifteen, one of my friends and I rode the bus to downtown St. Pete and promenaded around at the cityā€™s Halloween parade at Al Lang Field. There were prizes, candy, etc. After getting of the bus near home, we thought weā€™d cop a couple more treats. We knocked on a ladyā€™s door ā€“ she may have been wearing a bathrobe and hair rollers; shucks, it was 62 years ago! She peered at us and said, ā€œArenā€™t you two a little old for this sort of thing?ā€We slunk away, our trick-or-treating days officially over. (Except Iā€™m taking the kids around tomorrow, unless the Wisconsin version of Sandy is still afoot ā€“ strong winds today and 44Ā° temp. ā€“ felt like 0Ā° wind chill!).

Had a young couple before we moved that really did their whole house up for Halloween. The guy got a full costume for himself, usually a werewolf or something scarey and would lay out like a dummy on the front lawn or in a chair ā€¦ if little kids came up, heā€™d remain very still and not scare them ā€¦ older kids were fair game and heā€™d have them screaming and running away ā€¦ used to have people drive from miles away just to see his house all decorated up.
