Like we’re supposed to swallow this myth about union power. With bought and paid for politicians, the union movement has been all but snuffed out.Anybody wanna see the economy revive?Give people union jobs that pay a LIVING WAGE, instead of creating resentment of union wages and benefits to divide and conquer middle class wage earners.Cuts in to profits too much, it seems, those profits that get stashed in tax-avoidance havens around the world.Such wonderful “patriots”.
@lonecatThanks for that to mikefive.Trying to provoke public outrage over union wages and benefits has proved most successful in stirring up resentment against public sector and other unions.Union membership nationwide is about 10% of all workers in all jobs. Most people work for outfits that have no qualms about screwing workers, cause there’s no one to represent their interests.People have not been smart enough to demand union membership, and the reversal of idiotic laws making unionising efforts nearly impossible, and rigging this game, too. Most union members don’t make anywhere near $90,000, but if teachers in Chicago can be paid this much, good on ‘em.Average (1/2 above, 1/2 below) for Chicago teachers is around $65,000.Should be good pay for teachers at Chicago inner-city schools. You’re talking hazardous duty, here.Too many people in this country are paid dirt with dirt benefits, so if some can get a decent break, great! As you say, we must not criticise and penalise “success” (at screwing workers). That would be class warfare. It’s only class warfare when the peons fight back.
There are good unions and bad unions, banning unions one must think about how unions start and were started, i.e workers coming together, all that unions are is a institutionalized way of dealing with it, you could ban unions and have no effect on union action so long as workers get together.
From that point things actually may be must more bleak for employer as with unions you have some idea as to what is going to be asked
While unions may contribute to campaign funds trust me there are far larger corporate interests which conflict with them
…….“tying their pay and such”……This is inner-city Chicago schools we’re talking about here. The same teacher may have students who excel one year, and are a bunch of drug-dealing idiots the next year. How are the teachers supposed to be judged by students’ performance on tests?Surely, you jest!
