Madeline is trying to experience the thrill of sledding vicariously through Petey. Petey doesn’t like thrills; he prefers tranquillity. Alice recognizes Petey’s exasperation and endorses his action, if perhaps for her own reasons. I’m with Petey all the way on this; I think I was kinda like him in some respects as a kid….

RT’s sled runs all seem to end in that “mush” sound.

Petey’s life is a constant awkward stage. Think about it Petey – wasn’t that a thrill?

Good job, Madeline. I think we’re alike. If I haven’t given my kids a reason to visit a therapist, they’ll make something up. It might as well be something grounded in reality.

It’s so funny when Petey stands up and the reader realizes just how short that little hill is :-)
