Alice: Petey! There are lightning bugs out in our yard! Petey: Tell dad to get the bug spray. Alice: No, we're catching them! It's fun! Petey: Bugs plus electricity equals something best avoided. Alice: Forget it! Petey: Why not just call them light-socket bugs, or live wire bugs, or short-circuit bugs, or downed power line bugs?
Apparently they don’t exist in France. We had an exchange sent one summer who would just stand in the yard and turn in slow circles, totally entranced.
