Once again, a little under 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this strip:

Can’t believe out of the two, Alice’s explanation is more realistic!

Those new people warning signs are all over town. You can’t swing a wad of gum on a stick without hitting one.

Was Dill by any chance near Mulberry Street? (At least it’s not him stuck to the gum, this time.)

So this is where those socks that turn up missing from the laundry go

    But Dill’s is more poetic.

Richard’s attention to quirky little details is amazing.

Given all the scenery that Dill saw, I’m surprised that anybody would want to buy a house there.

Sock trees are a thing in Australia. It’s where the drop bears live.

Kevin the Buckethead can’t catch a break, can he? That wad of blue gum must have stalked him all the way from panel 4 to panel 9!

Dill is one of the great explorers, perhaps Cul de Sac’s greatest, right up there with Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan: Dill Wedekind! He circumnavigated the whole of Cul de Sac!

As for the Great Sock Controversy: I remain neutral, but tend to favor Dill’s explanation over Alice’s, because sockless guy sucked out of airplane, falls to death!

Where have you been, my blue-eyed Dill? And what did you see, my darling young one?

I rode my kiddie car all around this big circle,

I saw marks on the pavement where fireworks exploded,

I saw a sign warning new people were coming,

I saw a gum wad, it was blue as the ocean,

I saw some great dirt at the mouth of a storm drain,

I saw some more dirt from which mushrooms were growing,

I saw a green tree on which white socks were blooming,

    And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard,

    It’s a hard rain that’s gonna fall.
