There is an interesting series I’ve been watching on the National Geographic channel about Einstein called Genius. I’ve watched the first two shows in the series which pretty much shows what Susan Sunshine said about Einstein. He had family problems to deal with and tumultuous love affairs. Interesting.
I googled this and yeah it’s probably an urban legend. Too bad since according to my mother I didn’t speak til I was 3. Of course like everything else she used it as an example of what an idiot I was and it wasn’t til I was nearly grown that I learned I had a pretty decent IQ. I also saw where supposedly Einstein only slept rarely. That’s not possible because one must sleep to live, if one goes very long (like days) without sleep he or she can’t survive. Interesting.

What else?

Einstein was/still is one of the world’s most brilliant scientists – but nah, “He didn’t speak until he was 3.” That’s just pathetic.

How do we know he didn’t speak until he was 3? Is this an actual fact or just some silly legend? Where is the proof?

There is no proof because it’s an urban legend.
Some biographers report that Einstein said his first words rather late…
and theorise that it was because he was frustrated by his inability to form sentences yet.
More recent biographies point to the lack of evidence for even that.
What is known is that he spoke in complete sentences sometime between the ages of two and three,
He started school at 6, entering grade two, because he had already been taught for a year at home…
and was an excellent student in spite of various other urban legends to the contrary.
In fact he took top marks in his class at least the first two years in a row.
At 9 he entered an advanced “Gymnasium” … a college preparatory school….
and not only didn’t fail math or get expelled, he learned calculus starting at age 11, and entered university two years early.
Einstein himself was much later asked about an article reporting that he had failed elementary school math and called it nonsense…
telling his interviewer not to forget that by 15 he knew integral and differential calculus.
It’s popular to point out supposed flaws in his academic development,
as a comfort to those whose own children may be similarly failing.
The problem is that none of it is true….
though some of the legends were perpetuated due to one fact:
Einstein did have problems with discipline and rote learning….
His teachers complained of his creative nature and argumentativeness….
but those traits never derailed his academic brilliance.

Up for 10 minutes and I’ve learned something already; not from the comic.

I’d say that’s because he wasn’t born in America or England.

Some people collect steins, Albert only had one. Hence his last name.

@Tony:
I’d tell you, but I think Tigressy has already said it all…except for today’s…
Second “Daddy’s Home” Question:
At what age did you first speak real words/sentences?
