With the 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner I bought in ‘69 I would wax Sam’s bottom….. a 383 cubic inch (6.3 liter) V8. It had 335 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque and a 4-speed Hurst shifter on the floor. There were no Camaros around where I lived but I took out both 396 Chevelle SS that I came across.
That summer I road around in town for a half hour or so most afternoons after work with a cousin who had an SS396 with a Hurst 4-on-the-floor and a nice sounding exhaust. He rarely shifted higher than into 2nd gear.
My first car was a 15 year-old ‘47 Chevy coupe with plaid seat covers and 3 on the column, woohoo!! My dad liked to buy odd cars & fix ‘em up … among them was a ‘55 Nash Rambler and a maroon red ‘57 Studebaker Hawk (I called it “The Miscarriage” …lol). Ahhh, the good ol’ days of shade tree mechanics …!
Guy I worked with had one with the 396 in it. He painted it white with the Hugger Orange stripes. Gorgeous car. Ran like a scalded dog. 8 miles to the gallon, unlimited smiles.

OMG…a muncie 4 speed trans and positraction are must haves. And the RS option would be perfection.
