Well shoot with a diet like that, no wonder the “Blimp Sisters” look like they do. Was their mother trying to do them in?I assume the meatloaf was made from any leftovers that didn’t get eaten on Sunday.Ms’s Meatloaf1/2 cup chopped ham1 cup Chinese Chop Suey, Or 3 slices chopped Pepperoni Pizza or whatever Carry-Out is ledt1 cup Sloppy Joe Saucei slice breadKnead together, cram in loaf pan, cover with one bottle of ketchup and bake at 350 for 2 hours.Serve with Betty Crocker Mashed Potatoes and canned green beans.

2Old… don’t forget that on Friday, the leftover “meat” loaf goes in the sloppy Joes…. brings it all full circle.

    Waste not, want not.

    PacoPuddy…. we should all untie!

Well that explains why I don’t have a problem reading your posts. I guess we all have to stick together. My mom made Sat. lunch out of what was left over from the week. Most times it was something from Fri. we didn’t have a lot. there was 7 of us so not much to leave over. Susan the meatloaf sounds gross to us but I bet they scoffed it down.Is Joy rinsing out her bra or/and Burl’s skives ? it;s been a while hasn’t it?

Ahh, yes. Stouffer’s “red box” entrees, Hungry-Man tried ‘n trues and of course Hamburger Helper mini-miracles bring out the kitchen magician in any and all who are willing to push the envelope! Just sneak the empty boxes to the bottom of the kitchen garbage can while the kids ain’t looking: they’ll swear ya made it from scratch every time!!

I was wondering why any of them have a colander that needs rinsing (none of them cook).

I’ve been a little lazy myself as summer weather does not give me appetite for large meals. Bean salads, potato salad, lots of sandwiches and cold cuts (nitrate free at least). I’ll pick up a couple of Omaha steaks for a special meal next week.

I love ‘The Dinette Set’. A few of you are regular followers of it and make snide comments about the Penny’s everyday and today was no exception. I agree with you to some extent but today’s comic made me think of my own mother and her cooking, because we often had the same things over and over too – meatloaf, stew (made with a soup bone), homemade chicken noodle soup made with the chicken’s wings or backs (they were the cheapest parts back then), spaghetti – and yeah even with 4 kids there were often leftovers. My dad worked in the steel mills and there were 2 strikes, 1 in 1956 and the horrendous one in 1959. The 1959 strike lasted nearly 4 months. Money was scarce and we were lucky to have food on the table at all. No one worried about nutrition.

I mentioned to Daughter the other day that she and her brother never squabbled at the table. She said it was because they were too busy trying to figure out what it was they were eating. i did try out a lot of recipes on them, sigh.

These people don’t care what they eat either.. They just don’t cook it. Neither of them
