There’s nothing quite so frustrating as trying to set up Chinese-made electronics device with the instructions translated from Chinese to English by a high-schooler in Shanghai. That and trying to see the labels, etc. after some design genius decided that gray-on-gray was really cool. Burl, I feel your pain.
This is another rerun, but it’s from a year or two back. All I can think of, with those poorly translated instructions is, ‘All your base are belong to us!’
When I saw the back of the antimacassar on Joy’s chair, I thought, for one surreal moment, that the Penny’s were making a totally out-of-character political statement.
Something not only inconsistent with their personalities and beliefs, but the only even halfway political comment I’ve ever seen in this strip……well, except for some not unexpected hints that Burl and Joy will vote for whoever provides the best hot dogs at a rally, or promises to fill a pothole on their street.Anyway…. I read it again….and no…. ………sigh ….
it’s just one of Julie’s ordinary misspellings, couple with a “t” that looks like an “r.”
Mikie… I said “antimacassar” just for you. :)And I agree. The glorification of war is what makes me hang back even from things I would otherwise join in…Memorial Day being an example…
I can honor the dead…. which is heart-breaking, NOT glorious…but too many parades and speeches and decorated tanks make me want to scream.“Don’t you know what this stuff does to other people’s children?!What, in other hands, it could do to yours??It’s not for covering in flowers and rolling down the street, all shiny and proud! It’s for hiding away, and hoping it rusts to bits, and you never need it again.”
It’s a day to show the children what war has meant: fathers and grandfathers on both sides, who never came home… mothers and grandmothers too, these days…NOT to teach them, by example, to admire power, or to lust for a war to wield it in.
My guess is that it’s a cable “cheater” box that Burl either ’found" at the U-Stor-It or bought from a gentleman at the Dollar Dump parking lot for $25; no returns; no questions.

Jerry should practice step 16 when he’s at Gold’s Gym on Sundays.

It looks like a VCR. This is an old strip. Notice the date, 5/29, no year shown.

I figure Burl didn’t plug it in or is using a bad plug that he forgot to get repaired. Maybe he dropped the unit taking it out of the box
