There’s a fine line between neighborliness and creepiness. On either side. Too “friendly” and you’re invasive and nosy. Too remote, and you run the risk of becoming that creepy old guy who yells, “Get off my lawn!”
Well I never, how rude, come look at my beautiful garden, don’t you like our new BBQ? Check out our snow blower aint she nice. Yes I had a neighbor like this…LOL
Really only applies to the Karens. Three years ago, we were watching each other’s backs following a break in. Yesterday, I was out shoveling the driveway of my neighbor lady. No ulterior motive, unless you include that someday I might need a consideration but not counting on it.
There is a time and place to mind your neighbor’s business, though. Like if you see a prowler…. or their hose sprang a massive leak and needed to be turned off at the faucet (happened to my neighbors!) Checking in on elderly neighbors is always appreciated!
A few years ago I lived downstairs from a family of 5. One weekend in the summer they had guests over for a BBQ on their deck. From my window I saw a baby toddling toward an open gate with a steep flight of stairs and no one seemed to notice. I tore out of my suite, through the covered parking, and up the stairs in time to catch the little guy before he fell, put him inside the gate and closed it. No one thanked me but instead said “Mind your business.” This was not the first nor the last time, their behavior was often worse but that would never stop me from doing it again.

Neighborly a$$holes with loud motorcycles, cars, and trucks. Especially the trucks that mimic automatic gunfire.
