Mrs. Murphy’s third grade class is going to feel really slighted, if you don’t give them credit here. Look how nicely they stayed within the lines of the uniforms.

    fbjsr,

Does it relieve your disappointment with Obama to join other mindless protesters like stebon/nobets who seem incapable of political thinking? Why are you so anxious to stir up quarrels with everybody on the forum, some of whom respect Bush at least as much as you do?

As for criticism of Bush, Obama himself is considerably more discerning than his partisan supporters. He knows that Bush did not cause, but inherited problems—-like al-Qaeda, lack of health insurance, the dot.com bubble, and foolish deregulation—-from previous administrations. His criticism is that Bush did nothing about those problems.

Does acting like a “big boy” mean continuing to ignore the biggest problems? The “change” Obama promised was better government, i.e. government that addresses our real problems.

If you think Obama has failed to devise new policies, you might provide an analysis of his failure, instead of just asserting (as you seem to do) that “he’s no better than Bush.”

I’m just glad that the current administration:

    1) Shut down secret CIA prisons in Europe

    2) Kept the global banking system from collapsing

    3) Passed a stimulus package that kept the economy from sliding into depression

    4) Passed health care reform (+1 on that one!)

    5) Got Reagans START treaty extended, including

5a) Got Ukraine to turn over nuke material! and,

5b) Got worldwide commitment to stand against Iran!

    6) Kept GM and Chrysler solvent, preventing another 2 million lost jobs

And I’m really appreciative that GT has ROCKED the comics for 39 years!

thanks longtime. it’s easy to nitpick the details and the pace of Obama’s actions – largely due to the mindless and moronic lockstep opposition of the just-say-no party – but the president is doing what he said he was going to do. he’s also bent over backwards to do things in a non-partisan way, only to be rebuffed at every turn.

longtime – great post. It’s too bad that one of Obama’s greatest achievements (not that it was all his) – keeping the economy out of a depression – is so hard for people to notice. It’s easy to notice a disaster, it’s harder to notice the lack of a disaster. And so it’s hard for people to understand the continuing need for some stimulus. The health-care bill was a massive achievement. Even though it was certainly not the best possible plan, it may have been the best possible plan in the circumstances. And a principle has been established, finally.

I have to say I am not happy with the continued involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the situations are so complicated that it’s hard to see what better course there could be.

^ < As to our president’s not keeping his promises, there is only so much he can do by himself, it needs the cooperation of Congress and the Senate Republicans have blocked so much with their filibustering.

    @Joe

With all due respect for your touchingly humane postal reminiscences, I think the girl in the strip wants to find out who does the coloring of another character in the same strip. I doubt many readers will write to the “Silo” to contact a real soldier, especially now that you’ve given us the correct address.

Stebon announced his problem: impotence. it is interesting that he expects G.B. Trudeau & President Obama to solve his this problem.

Fbjsr, Obama has accomplished a gret deal in the last eighteen months. Yes, he has moved too far to the right. Do not forget, however, that he has had the worst mess handed to him since Franklin Roosevelt. In eighteen months, we have an improving economy. Neither of the Bush-Dick’s imbecilic wars has gotten worse. The occupation of Iraq is improving. BP’s oil spill, caused by eight years of Bush-Dick’s non-regulation, is being paid for BY BP, not by us. This April, both working- & middle-class Americans received a tax cut. Under Bush-Dick, we paid more, while the wealthy paid less. Obama is in the process of reversing that.

Well said, Longtimecomics. I still admire DOONESBURY, too. Your measure of 39 years: Does that include BULL TALES? What is the first date of Trudeau’s first Yale strip?

To me, this particular segment is funny because it borders on the surreal, playing with the concept that so many people take it seriously. I won’t comment on the comments.

Show your support for our men and women in uniform and join this effort to support them. It works. This dyed-in-the-wool lefty has been a member for seven years. First sending care packages to people I did not know and then sending packages to my nephew’s Marine company after he enlisted and went to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is home now safe and sound after 4 years active duty and 3 deployments. If you can’t send packages send the site some money to help keep it going.
