I always wondered how Mike ended up with someone like JJ, who seemed so unlike him. Now I see how it started, at least. But still don’t understand how on earth it could continue…

Mike is everything Zeke is not. That’s why. Though why JJ decided to go back to Uncle Stupidhead will probably never make sense…

Because Mike portrayed himself as a badass rebel and she found out he was about as rebellious as white bread bologna sandwich

I’ve always thought this sequence (starting from here) is downright adorable. Mike is just so helplessly lovestruck. Even as someone who’s sort of been in that situation of your self-awareness taking leave of you so that you can make a royal fool of yourself, seeing it happen to someone else is just damn cute.

Whaddaya know, JJ is right. For once. Assuming Bob is right about this ill-fated romance, why would anyone believe a guy in a white shirt and tie is a badass rebel? Remember, Mike presented himself to BD as an irresistible ladies man in strip one. The man is an unrepentant poseur. DavidGreen is right about the responsibility factor for Joanie, but then she at least deserves a modicum of credit for Alex. And argythree wonders how Mike could fall for JJ at all; two words. Hot blonde.

JJ also had that deep creative artistic thing going for her. Most of her art was lousy, of course, but Mike took a while to realize that…..

while the tale of the beautiful girl falling for the “bad boy” endures and has some truth to it, the reverse is also true. The good boy falling for the “bad girl” I know its true, because I did it and married her for a very tumultuous 10 years and 2 kids. Until she got bored and filed for divorce hoping to take me for every penny. Thankfully she hired a really bad lawyer, and I got a really smart one who really disliked her lawyer.I got full custody and she got our oldest car. I kept everything as my lawyer was able to prove how she left the kids alone when I went to work and slept around with any man she could find. That was my big mistake. However, like Mike I found a new wife to whom I have been married for 21 years now,(our 22nd anniversary is next month) with not only no arguments, not even a raised voice. My 2 kids love her, call her mom to this day and get along with her 2 kids like they are real brother and sister.-to this day the youngest is 27 years old and the oldest 38.She is Korean and I discovered her in the US where she owned a village Tavern in Delaware even tho she neither drinks or smokes.
