Mike: ...and my wife wants to be near the galleries in Soho. Agent: Offhand, I'd say you're talking East Village. Two years ago, no problem. Today, the crush is on. All the yups want in, but the area's still infested with old neighborhood types who just won't budge! Mike: So you don't think there's anything available? Agent: Available? Hey, you ever tried to force an elderly Jewish or black couple out of their apartment? Mike: Uh... no. Agent: Believe me, it can take months! Meanwhile, you gotta find another place to live!

My (elderly, Jewish) aunt was the lone holdout when her apts across from the boardwalk at Coney Island went condo. They finally (after years) cut a deal; and she’s still there.

$950/month. 3BR, 2Ba on three acres. Fenced. On a hill overlooking the suburbs. Small town near Reno. Nearest neighbor is 100 yards or so. Just me, my animals, and my loud music. Yes, I’m bragging, but I’m semi-retired, and I have earned it.
