I think this ran about the time of the big scandals in the pet food industry. Some canned dog foods were made, of course, with horse meat ( and still are, to the best of my knowledge ).
One of the leading brands at the time, KalKan, was found to be using kangaroo meat. There was a great hue and cry over this from animal lovers worldwide.
Apparently, is was o.k. for Fido to consume Old Dobbin along with his Kibbles & Bits but not a marsupial from the family Macropodidae, considered by many Australians, a pest !
