The ones I hate (when looking for cards) are the cards that have a specific age mentioned — ones which are perfect except they say “Happy 30th birthday” when my wife or friend is considerably older. So I have to get a lame generic card.
I used to work as a merchandiser for American Greetings. Once a man in his 50’s came in and asked where the anniversary cards were. I showed him and he grabbed one and left without even bothering to read it. I was ticked off thinking of his wife who had probably stuck with him for 30 years, washing his clothes, cooking his meals, cleaning their house etc. and that she deserved better than that! What if she’d taken as much care with those jobs as he took to pick out a card for her?
Another story, I save cards in a shoebox and once a few years ago I was looking through it and found that my husband had bought me the same card two years in a row. We had a good laugh over that.

Hubby and I had a good laugh one Valentine’s Day. We’d given each other the exact same card.
