Back in the 90s I got the first car that was just mine. My husband was stationed in Korea, so it was all me. I dusted it daily. I was so proud of it. Then I decided to hand wax it. Keep in mind I’d never actually done anything like that nor seen it in person EVER. I took the girls (2 & 4) up to Sonora so they could run around and play while I waxed. We were in the middle of nowhere and it was gorgeous weather. I put wax over every bit of clean car (I’d ran it through the car wash a few miles away & used towels to get off every bit of dust from the dirt road we’d taken). Now the instructions said to do one section at a time, but I figured it would save time to do the whole car -wax on, and then the whole car-wax off. Except that wax hardens. Quickly. Especially in the Arizona desert in May. I was exhausted from just buffing one quarter of the hood. The next day I took it to the pros. It took them hours of trying to soften the wax up to buff it. When we got rid of the car 7 years later there was still wax in some of the crevasses where it just would not come out.
What about Bob? I think he is starting to feel left out. He is the most interesting bird in the world. He just needs to be given a chance to spread his wings. Bob now. Bob forever!

The delayed reaction gimmick is the most used joke in comics and sit-coms.

Dent has multiple meanings. Dent: “an appreciable impression or effect”.

I think he’s trying to say he accomplished some noticable progress executing the task.

I hope he put a dent in the wax job, and not the car.

Love it! Not sure Norm’s play on words was intentional, but what a great way to answer the question!
Actually, it reminds me of me. When someone tells me, “Drive carefully,” I reply, “Oh, I always drive wrecklessly.” Usually requires an explanation.

Putting wax on a clear-coated car is like putting a raincoat on a dolphin.

Putting a dent in it can be an expression of doing most of the job, or denting the metal.
