Replace the toilet. The installation kit comes with a new flapper.

Not extensive enough, Ralph. Trust me.

If you don’t know basic skills like that, life will get very expensive. Too many people can’t replace a switch or fix simple mechanical issues.

I thought flappers went out of style in the twenties.

He should Norm he’s looking for a left hand flapper.

Aren’t flappers all the same size?

OH. MY. GAWD. With both dad and son working on this, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? Call a plumber, guys. . . .

Most flapper valves are a standardized size.

Best toilet repair or mod I ever did – replace the water supply plug valve (multiple turns to screw it closed, or leaks if not opened all the way) with a ball valve (just a simple quarter turn to open or close it).

BUy all the sizes and return the ones that don’t fit.

“Oh, flap!”

(Anybody remember Major Hoople from “Our Boarding House”, who would often say “Fap!”, when irritated or frustrated?)

This is gonna cost him, when he has call a plumber to fix the fix.

When possible take in a sample or a good picture.

Better hope it’s not a Kohler toilet, anything you replace will cost ten times as much and parts are hard to find.

God I had to replace a hell of a lot of flappers in the house we build. They were built cheaply, installed size ways in to the tank and lasted maybe half year. We had 3 stools, so you figure it out!

Every flapper that I’ve ever replaced, and I’ve done more than a few, have all been the same size. Do they even come in different sizes?

So much for standardized parts.
