God, I guess I’m really dating myself here, but I had two channels, they were black and white and signed off in the evening and didn’t come back on the air until morning.
Uffda, cleokaya….I lived in the same area about the same time as you and remember how the ND weather had everything to do with what little we were able to watch.
see, thats what’s funny about this…it’s aimed, apparently, at us old folks because of the irony
of the situation…
young .folks who grew up not knowing anything about rabbit ears or broadcast tv wouldn’t get this …
here’s something interesting: today’s college freshmen never knew a world without cable tv,computers, the internet, cell phones..
those who remember: dials on telephones and partylines and tv’s with rabbit ears , (that used to have aluminum foil on the ends for better reception!) and having to use the pliers to change channels when the channel selector stripped its gears (remote control? hah!) are relics of the past
Yep Grazer. I feel sorry for the people in ND with the flooding and snow at the same time. As a kid with two channels, it didn’t matter. In the winter I could step out my second story bedroom window and slide down the drift. In the summer I could have raft battles on the local slough.

we never had cable in my day - we had 6 channels period and used rabbit ears for an antenna

You were lucky, Bald. We only had 3 channels. And one was all fuzzy and snowy. And on a 10” screen.

In “my day” we had 4 Channels - 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), 7 (ABC), 9 ( Windsor) … later 50 (Detroit) and 56 (Public TV).
Black and White TV that was able to have “color” by putting a plastic cover over the screen.
Rabbit ears for a “better” picture.
Change channels manually ie get up off of floor (usually watched TV laying/sitting on the floor).
