Symmetry compulsion. I always liked to “even things out” even as a young child. If I touched something with my left index finger, I had a minor compulsion to touch the same thing with my RIGHT index finger. I didn’t even know it was a compulsion until after I became an adult. It’s harmless. Anyway, at the gas pump, I like the final total to end in zero, too. Or at $14.15 or $14.00 or $14.44. If it shuts off at $14.99, I like to try and increase it to $15.00. It’s just a game with me now. But it all started with my symmetry compulsion as a young child.

Eno doesn’t have a remote idea of how this device is supposed to work.

The pump spun much slower when it was 69¢ per gallon. That made it easy to hit zero.

Eno makes zero cents.

Gas pumps used to roll over at $9.99. Gas was under 50¢ a gallon, and most cars had tanks under twenty gallons.
Then an RV would pull in, and the attendant would have to watch the pump and count the number of times it went around.

I remember when regular gas was 14.9 cents per gallon. That was about 50 years ago. Anyone else remember those days?

Yep, that sounds about right. I am one of those “stop on zero” kind of people. :o)

Remember when they would pump the gas, wash your windshield, check under the hood and air up your tires?
