The last shot today gives intriguing details The ship is much larger than ships that have sails It’s four-fifty feet, with two-fifty of beam This is no little sloop! It’s a vessel extreme! We knew it was special; it sails in the sky With magical gasbag that helps it to fly (Not Marx, who’s a bit of a gasbag himself Can he even read all those books on the shelf?) He welcomed them in, as “mi casa, su casa” But this ship is larger than even the Vasa You might spend innumerable hours in roaming For it’s even bigger than mighty Wyoming! That ship, I worked out, was three miles stem to stern A result I was most astounded to learn So big was the thing that even on the ground You’d go a full mile if you chanced to fall down The ship’s upper layers, nine years after landing Have all been abandoned, but now they’re expanding The folks need more space so our robotic pair Were sent up inside to give that space some air One sequel-scene will look familiar, no doubt Up high on the ship, they have a … falling out =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum
Gyah! For a while it was clear that – as Mr. Neathery said, the cliffhangers were on Mondays as he had to add a strip for pacing, but it looks like he fixed that. In spades. I can see only one solution, so I’ll see if I was right in an excrutiationgly long 72 hours. But what’s with Holly’s gigantic ears in panel 1?
Petey may have a chance, if he’s going with the suction and faster than it. The trick will be going against the suction after grabbing them. The ship’s propellers are a lot larger and more powerful than his. There’s a chance that the ship’s AI is aware of the situation and will cut the engines just before they cut Wally and Holly. Then it’ll bring them to the bridge and validate Marx’s trickster truth. Yeah, that’s it… That’s got to be it… They can’t die, they can’t!
Okay, let’s see, Wally and Holly’s impending doom seem too obvious. Maybe Petey saves them, but he’s sacrificed instead?Yeah, Niall-Can, her ears don’t look attached to her head quite right. The bottoms of the aural opennings should be against the skull.Hmmm…ya know…..if Holly and Wally go straight back, perhaps they go between the two props and not through one of them. They don’t overlap.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. That is another thing you don’t get in many comics! I love action movies and I gotta tell ya, this by far outshines all the sights, sounds and special effects they make. In four panels there are more things to see, think about and wonder than a whole two hour film. And it get’s the pulse going too! Petey reminds me of R2-D2. He get’s things done.
Petey has to live. We haven’t found out his history yet! I know this may raise some eyebrows but I still have-albeit very little- faith in Flask. She has a lot going on inside her too. I hope she can come through. She has a lot to offer. It’s gonna be a slow weekend. Wonder what the “captain” is doing right now. And where is his magic pen!!
The incredible thing here is the time period involved. On the Endtown clock it has still been less than 48 hrs since they stepped out on the surface (back on Sep 9, 2011 our time). In that brief ( ;-) ) span W&H have faced ( I believe) four different life or death moments ( the Doug & Linda encounter, the escape from the rocket, the PT incident, and now this). If I were Wally, I might be getting just a bit short tempered myself at this point. Four crisis points up against a short nap and a meal (albeit a great one!). I would say they were prime candidates for PTSD, but we never seem to get to the “post trauma” part…
I read all your comments this morning and cried. I have friends in all of you. We all need a good word now and then.As I told Aaron, my fingers just seem to dance on the keys when I am writing to him. He is a great guy. Trying to buy the first shirt, anybody got any back roads?Surgery went well. They removed small patches and said they were benign. Whew! But the worst thing was the death of my hard drive. It took them a week just to diagnose. How does the sound of sticking out your tongue going "psstttsstt?I have to download all my programs and didn’t keep them. Didn’t think I needed them. Sigh. Love you allBlessed BE.
Welcome back, DOL1! We all missed you. Bless your heart…you sure have been through alot in such a short period of time lately. I’m very pleased to hear that the procedure when well. Your in my thoughts. Now, you take good care of yourself, ok.
Yeah, initially I thought that he let go of the handle because Holly’s tail was going to snap off. But, because of the shape and angle of the handle, his hand probably just slipped off.
Perhaps who or whatever is controlling the ship could throw that prop into beta mode, effectively reversing the thrust of that engine by changing the pitch of the props, but I am uncertain even a smart logic controller could act that fast..I believe Petey has a more likely chance but he would really have to move, and his best bet appears to be sacrificing himself by jamming the screws.
I’m a british Comic reader of 2000AD and the current Judge Dredd story is massive. Dark Judges, block wars, bio-engineered plagues… It takes something, therefore, to get me worried about lead characters and, as much as that 2000AD storyline has had me concerned for Dredd, it shows the skill of Mr Neathery that, after only reading his strip for a few weeks, I am BLOODY scared for Holly, Wally and co!
I hope he takes it as a compliment as it means he’s done better with me than the likes of Garth Ennis, Robbie Morrison and the Dredd-God himself, John Wagner. And that’s just in a few weeks…
Aaron Neathery, I see you have a new photograph as your avatar, to replace the previous one that was less clear. It confirms my suspicion: You DO look like Sam Gamgee.
DirtyOldLady! Good indeed, your return You’re back and are better, we’re pleased to learn The doctors could not have a patch on you Now if your computer had done well, too… Hello Storm, and welcome! You’ve joined in the fray Of readers of Endtown who follow each day The saga of Wally and Holly and crew Few grip us the way these “little folk” do =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum
I hope the ship has an improbability drive. It’s very improbable these two will survive.I’d be very surprised to see them alive,Unless Petey succeeds with his suicide dive.(This poem will end with line number five.)
@JanBic: Please accept my apologies for venting my frustration earlier in this forum. It is my wish that both Endtown 2.0 and Doc Rat rate very highly at Topwebcomics and anywhere else that would continue to raise their profile, market awareness to continue to justify their work. Unfortunately I lost my composure in the written word, I rang a bell that cannot be unrung. I do appreciate you and Level_Head encouraging people to vote, and providing links to both voting sites to make it easy for anyone to vote for both strips.
In March the preliminary numbers were 3001 votes for Endtown 2.0, which requires a score of 100 votes per day, which would be a respectable showing any month. The current #20 has about 150+ votes per day when you consider how many people read this strip.
There are several regular commenters, and many many occasional commenters here, and who knows how many read the strip and may never comment. There is even one poster at another strip with an Aaron Marx avatar that I donot recall having seen comment here. Because of Your and Level_Head’s links hundreds of people could vote, or even thousands of potential voters. First place at TWC generally garners an average of more than 1000 votes per day. That is doable now, with this group but I have no idea how to cheaply motivate people to do this good thing, and vote for Endtown 2.0 AND Doc Rat as often as possible.
I hardly think my earlier rant will do the job, and extend my sincere apologies to you and the entire Endtown family for my rash and unmeasured response.
Sorry for the double post — the last one went a little weird!
Just a little math here.Let’s ignore the top spots on TWC for a moment since they have both voting links on their sites and voting incentives (incentives are cheating IMHO). Notice that the number one comic immediatelly dropped when they removed there voting link! The # 10 comic is on track for about 12,000 votes this month. That is 400 per day or 200 voters voting twice a day (possible if you have access to different networks—home and work for instance). I am sure we have 200-300 regular readers who can take a moment to vote. It is interesting that GoComics reports that Endtown has 3,033 subscribers! I suspect most of them do not read the comments and therefor do not know the importance of voting.
Top Ten is doable. We all need to do everything we can to get out the vote.
I’ve worked on the size; and my work’s now completer The prop (big surprise!): It’s about 40-meter This means that the blade, to avoid sonic wrecks Must always be made more than point-four secs For each revolution, and since there are 2 One-fifth of a sec between blades might just do Some grim form of death here might not be seen (We’ll just hold our breath!) As they could slip between! Though 160 RPM sounds like not much It’s still deadly to them if it should touch No time to reverse them or change the blade’s angle Just one second left — what a cliffhanger dangle! =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum
That door should really have a “Warning, external access service door. Do not open while ship is airborne!” Waring sign or safety interlock or something like that.
