Actually, while flies are EXCELLENT at seeing motion and reacting fast (You cannot “out-speed” a fly!) their weakness is distance. I used to kill 20 to 50 or more at each meal in summer camp using the method I’m about to tell you.
First, when a fly lands, do NOT try to swat it. They can take off flying, either forward, backward, or from every angle, in fractions of a second. Instead. s-l-o-w-l-y raise your hand at a distance. Now, again s—l—o—w—l—y move your hand so that it is over the fly. Now sometimes, the fly will see the shadow of your hand, but if you are creeping along slowly enough, they won’t recognize it as danger. Your hand should be two or three feet above the fly. Now… moving like a glacier s—-l—-o—-w—-l—-y lower your hand… half an inch…… half an inch….. q-u-a-r-t-e-r of an inch…. until you are only about two inches above the fly. If you have moved slowly enough, that fly won’t even recognize the danger she’s in.KILL SHOT!!! SLAM that hand down! If you are less than two inches away, you’ll get that fly EVERY time!
Yes, you get fly goosh all over your hand. That’s what Purell is for. As I said, at Mess hall in summer camp up in the mountains, I used to kill SCORES of flies in exactly that way. I think my personal record was 112 in a single sitting. One of the other kids had me beat, however. he had 257 kills in one meal! IT WORKS!
