Dear MBA graduate business manager: if your mission is so unclear that your every last employee can’t get it intuitively (e.g., we sell hamburgers), then developing a mission statement is an exercise in navel-gazing futility.
If you need one, it’s already too late. If you develop one, it won’t help. But it will make you look busy!

After a lifetime in corporate America, I’ve found that Mission Statements are used, just rarely followed.
