Trust me, it has nothing to do with white hair. Both my recently deceased wife and I felt invisible so much we dreaded even thinking about having to go to any “counter”. I did start using the order ahead apps to avoid people for that reason.

in our society men have preferential privileges. Several times when I have approached a store counter, the salesperson (usually female) has waited on me first. Even when woman customers were there first.

I have learned to speak up. An “Excuse me, but I was here first,” said politely, but firmly and quietly, has had good results. No Karen reactions so far. And I try NOT to be the Karen, so no shouting, screaming, tantrums, etc., on MY end. :o)

If they ignore me, I get so noisy that they can’t.

I do want to add that as women are around 45, 50, they do basically become invisible. They are assumed to be married, and not very exciting. Past the age of fun. If they only knew the truth! There is some comfort in the invisibility, though, sometimes.

Or as soon as you walk into a home repair/hardware store and aren’t male, you are invisible.
