I’m wordering what store would deliver a small container of sauce and nothing else? And if you are going to give a tip to someone, a bit should be the least even if it IS only fifty cents.
For delivery of pizza or any other food, customary rules of percentage tipping sort of go out of the window, because the driver usually does about the same amount of work no matter what the cost of your order is, unless you’re ordering like 50 pizzas for a company party or something.Besides, the company I work for wouldn’t even deliver a cup of marinara by itself. They’d tell you to order something along with it or go pick it up yourself.
@LS, that’s what I said in my own way. If I felt a tip was required , 25 cents would be bare minimum even if I bought 50 cents of something, but I’ve also never heard of a place that would deliver a small item like that (except for a crucial medication to a homebound person).
vidazzle: A bit is 12.5 cents. The Spanish dollar could be broken into eight pieces, thus the term “pieces of eight”. It was also the origin of $ – the Pillars of Hercules with an S-shaped scroll.
I’ve had customers like this… tipped me four cents when I delivered two pizzas, a side of breadsticks, and a two-liter of soda… and an extra cup of marinara sauce.

Eight percent of a dollar is eight cents. Half of that is four. How hard is that?

She’s cheap. It’s customary to tip 15%. At least.

I drove a cab for a while some years back…short of getting stiffed, the smallest tip I received from a fare was 25 cents.

It’s not really marinara either. Not what I’d call marinara anyway. I think he put mo than his thumb in it too.
