I guess whoever came up with the compact fluorescent (costs ten times what a normal bulb does, burns out in two weeks, can’t be used in areas of high humidity, vibration, or on a dimmer, and requires hazardous-material treatment to dispose of it) needed something new to justify their existence.
Finally finished LED conversion of my house when LED shop lights became available for the workshop (MUCH brighter than fluorescents). New oven already came with LEDs.
