this scenario, that a cat cares about earning its keep, takes real suspension of belief…

IF I remember correctly, that was the premise of a Tom & Jerry cartoon, in the “Old West…” They signed an agreement that Tom could “catch” Jerry, in exchange for part of Tom’s dinner (he wouldn’t get any, with Jerry running around). Of course, Tom reneges on the deal, and, as the old expression goes, “Chaos ensues.”
