Pizza Hut cheapened down the quality of their pan pizza dough several years ago. Pizza Hut, KNOWN for their poofy pan pizza crust. Then the toppings got skimpier and skimpier. They do have good sales, and the crust tastes okay still. Sometimes I add more toppings at home and put it under the broiler for a few minutes.
Jalapeno and anchovy is my fav. No one skimps on those toppings because no one else eats them. The looks on the faces when I order it are a bonus. It gets a little weird when you pay for the order and they have the owner and the cook come out to view the idiot who ordered it.
Back in the 70’s we went to Taco Bell and got an enchirito. They had started serving their smaller “shrinkflation” enchirito for the same price but were still using up the larger containers. It was quite noticeable and made for a pathetic looking little enchirito. Yes, my friends and I felt ripped off and had an interesting discussion on corporate marketing and economics.
When I was a kid I used to watch this with candy bars. They would shrink and shrink, and then come out with a new “giant” version with a much higher price, and then it too would shrink and shrink.
we already knew that portions were large in north america, but were stunned that a slice of pizza in whistler was the size of a large pizza here in japan. that’s only a slight exaggeration… ☺

The pizza may have gotten smaller but I’m suspecting the delivery guy wants his gratuity bigger.

In My Day, everybody’s large was 16" and medium was 14". Now, just about everybody uses 14" and 12".
And, of course, Prices Higher In California.
