Elly: April, how many times do I have to ask you to take your things upstairs?!! April: I dunno...how many times did you ask me already? Elly: April, if these toys and books and clothes are not taken up to your room by the end of the day, i'm throwing them all into the trash! April: Mom? What are you doing?! Elly: Throwing out your stuff. April: You can't do that!- it's mine!!! Elly: Sorry. I meant what I said. It'll be picked up first thing in the morning. All right. You can take your things upstairs, but next time...A really good threat...is one you don't have to carry out!
I was as bad as, if not worse than, Mike… my mom got tired of seeing it and asked me one Friday evening to clean my room. Saturday afternoon came and I hadn’t even started (was too busy reading). She told me that if I didn’t have the room cleaned by Sunday night that she’d do it and anything that was not clothing would be thrown away. Of course I didn’t believe her and didn’t touch my room. Came home from school on Monday afternoon and my room was spotless…. and she had done exactly what she had threatened to do! She had our neighbor back his truck up to my window and she tossed everything that was on the floor into the bed of his truck and then paid him to take it to the dump!
