Why is being a housewife supposed to be funny? something that makes no sense to men? (but Adam@Home knows all about it - hooray for him!) how women spend endless days accomplishing essentially nothing?
and if a woman has paid work, she’s generally still expected to look after the house (ah, but nowadays, I know of so many wonderful exceptions to this rule…)
Here’s a poem from long ago:

But woman’s work is never done.
I just spent 15 to 20 minutes cleaning up someone else’s garbage that was spread all over the road in front of the house, broken beer bottles, baby food containers and suprisingly … a bikini top.
I quite sympathize with Elly and I’m a man.
I used to try enforcing tidiness after I first married, but though my wife was a bit of a neat freak, that soon went out the window, especially with her college age sons.
At least the youngest was anal retentive enough to try to nag his brother whenever they roomed together at school.

That’s so true Rina! I don’t have kids yet, but I still think this all the time…while cleaning up the house or the mess the cats or dog (or husband) made!
@RinaFarina, raising children is extremely important work. It just doesn’t get a lot of public recognition - especially these days. Just like in stories, the people most critical to His-story are seemingly insignificant: the butler, the cleaning lady, the blacksmith (“for want of a nail”), the housewife.
There is also very little support for child rearing today. The pressure is to turn over our children to “professionals”.
