when i was in my 3rd year of university, we had frosh week t-shirts made up for those of us in the faculty who had volunteered to be available to help new students with directions and other information. they had the slogan āi;m approachableā printed on them, and turned out to be a pretty decent way to meet people as well as for the use they were intended.
Iād ask the person to write down the directions because they lose me after the first one. I hope that nice man in the turtleneck will actually lead her there.
yyyguy and Steve, Iām glad you were available to help new people find where they were going.
Why do women always have to ask directions? Itās only a āuniversity classroom buildings have information booths, atriums, and multiple-named wingsā
Men donāt need to ask, we will find it on our own. If not today, then tomorrow. Or maybe next week. Hopefully. Or we donāt need it that bad.
In the week before I started my freshman year at university (many many years ago), I had dreams about being lost on campus and not knowing where my classes were.
So often when I ask for directions they are so complicated that there is no possible way for me to remember them. Do I ask them to repeat them, no; whereas my wife would and does.
well one thing after getting such wonderful directions she stopped again to ask a guy this time,,,,, ha! we all now about guys and directionsā¦(donāt ask)
They have a map at my University too. Itās a good thing because they always manage to build something new, or redo something in between semesters. Iām a Junior and I still get lost! :-P
A competent information desk has a stack of printed maps/building diagrams, and marks the sought-after location and the āyou are hereā location with highlighter. Not Rocket Science.

And of course poor Elly will likely hear āWrightā as right. That sounds like an impossible set of directions then!! :o)
But hey donāt fretā¦ itās Turtleneck Man to the rescue! :o)

Iād react just like Elly did. I would not ask that person to repeat their directions.

The bright side is that life experiences and emotions are fodder for creative writing.

I can sympathize with Elly, I am a senior, and I still get lost in some of these blasted buildings!

The good thing about my college, they hand out a map type thing that says where all the rooms and buildings are. I use it every new semester.
