Usually what happened with my kids is that they would keep jumping up and down, insisting that they needed to go outside to play in the snow - RIGHT AWAY!!!\ Then it would take about an hour to get them all bundled up in appropriate snow boots, hats, mittens sweaters, coats, etc. Then you would shove them out the door. There would be this moment of sheer terror when they realized it was actually COLD out there. Then they would turn around and begin banging on the door - crying that they wanted to come back inside because it was COLD out there! Fortunately, it only took about half an hour for them to dump all of their snow gear on the living room floor and then run downstairs to begin building with blocks or whatever!
I thought she’d get them all bundled up in snowsuits and then would come the inevitable “I have to go to the bathroom!” meaning you have to undo all of that!

GEE1A - The above being said, and as for weather, the town of Millborough, would be SOUTH of Minneapolis for in longitudinal respects. South West Ontario, South Central Ontario and all the way to Quebec (called the “Windsor/Quebec Corridor” has the same weather patterns as New York City, Detroit etc etc.
I’m just glad I live where it doesn’t snow! My butt gets too cold in the snow! I lived in Alaska during the winter…brrrrr! Give me mild weather, and I’m as happy as my Chihuahua under the covers.
Openwings: I think maybe John just barely got home from work or something. I don’t get the impression that he’s standing outside just for the fun of it.
Now that they have dressed properly with great exertion on Mom’s part, gotten what they wanted (to go outside) it doesn’t look like they are playing at all. Probably whining about the cold. Where is the romping and playing with the dog they wanted to badly? (My first comment on any comic!)
When my kids were little the rule for playing outside in winter was that they had to stay outside for at least the same amount of time as it took to get them bundled up.
Here in South Central Kansas Thanksgiving will be 50 degrees no snow.
We will have smoked turkey and sweetpotatoes with crumbtopping with nuts.
I remember with snow but when our two kids where little they didn’t want to go out in the snow stay in with warmth.
we never had snow suits as a kid, we just put on thermal long johns 2 pair of jeans and an extra pair of socks, our winter coat with a muffler and if it would fit, a second pair of gloves.

Allan, I stand corrected. I always thought they lived in North Bay like the Johnstons themselves (and now I find even that was a relatively recent move!) Thank you Allan, thank you Wikipedia.

Take all of them for a walk, then go home and make hot chocolate - that’s what my mom used to do it was wonderful!

chuck them out the door. My mom didn’t need to be with me out in the snow and God bless her for staying inside. She would have cramped my style.
