Guys, take a small grain of salt with the times that this strip was originally written. We infantailze our children way more these days than back in those days. I’m reasonably convinced that this trend is not a good thing. It was considered good for children to tussle a little. I still think it is.
When dealing with active, noisy children. I send them outside to work off their excess energy. Strangely, when the weather is bad they usually choose to be calmer. I only interfere if I fear they are mad enough to cause actual damage (mental or physical). I don’t know if that is the correct way to handle it.
Most times I think that when a child grows into an admirable person, it is in spite of their parents.
Humor is in the eye of the beholder. Garfield hasn’t been funny for at least 20 years IMO, but somehow Jim Davis keeps a paycheque coming in. This strip, at least I can say been there done that. And that’s usually where the fans find humor in FBOFW, that on some level we usually can relate to it.
As I said yesterday, there are some folks who read this strip because they love to trash it. They’re entitled to their opinions.
BTW does anyone remember that Connie ended up married to a great guy with two daughters? She managed to straighten out her “head problems” quite well.
funny is in the eye of the beholder true – but this strip imo is rarely lol funny. it goes for cute and some sort of message or observation about the way people and families act, and misses on that more often than not.
Garfield on the other is 20x funnier than this train wreck on any given day.
So soon?? But there’s still some names I want to call him! Seriously, boys will fight and be over it two minutes later. They’ll be fine.
Jeez, are we going to get into this discussion every blinkin’ day? Either you like this comic for whatever reason (it applies to you, you like criticizing the characters, you like reminiscing about the new strip vs the old, etc), or you don’t. If you like it, then read it and we enjoy reading all comments whether we agree or not. If you don’t like it, then stop reading!! Why is it so difficult to understand this?
lighten has a good point. If you want to read only to complain, there are plenty of political strips around. Or you could join my mother-in-law in comments about me at her “home.” Really, she’d love the company.
Poor Elly. Always getting dumped on. They were just arguing; it’s not like they were beating each other up. If you separate kids every time they dispute, they will never learn conflict resolution.
There sure are a lot of people on this board who think they are perfect. What gives with all the negativity? OMG it is every day, that the perfect people are drawn to this site. Wow I take my hat off to you!
howtheduck: Thanks so much for the links to Lawrence’s coming-out story. I didn’t start reading FBorFW until well after all this had taken place. Greg should consider himself lucky that nothing happened to Lawrence after he so callously threw him out of the house with no place to go. He was a 17 year old kid, for heaven’s sake! If that had been me, I’m not so sure I could have forgiven, let alone stayed married to, someone that had done that to my child when he was the only father that my son had ever had. Marriages have a way of coming and going, but your child is your child for life … no matter what.
Today is the 10th anniversary of the death of PEANUTS creator Charles Schulz. Wasn’t he and Lynn good friends? I wonder if Lynn will put in the strip some sort of tribute to him over the next few days like they have done at GARFIELD?

She didnt seperate them. She said Lawrence is going home tommorow.
RinaFarina, I addressed your jab at me on yesterday’s strip.
All I have to say about today’s comments, which continue the constant complaining about other people’s comments, is that the people who can’t see the truth or humor in the comments made here, and find everything so “offensive” and mean. DON’T READ THEM! You have no inherent right not to be “offended”. Rina is offended by the word tramp, and then said she doesn’t even know what it means, so come on! I have a feeling that’s the case with a lot of people about the comics themselves. My only problem with those people who like to tell everyone else to be bland and boring, and who sit there in judgement every day, is that they are the ones calling names and picking fights with everyone around here all the time, so who’s worse? People who understand what the comic writer created and call a spade a spade, or a bunch of hostile bullies insulting other commenters by name all the time, showing just the opposite behavior of what they demand?
I find it OFFENSIVE that ANYONE would ever condone ANY of Connie’s recent behavior, but nobody’s telling those people to stop the insanity.
I agree that I can’t believe that anyone would think that Connie not rushing home to her poor injured young son, immediately when getting the message, was acceptable behavior.
There are no comments about Connie’s delay, over at the board at FBORFW. I’ll just bet that they have received plenty and are not posting them. Just like when little Lizzie was in the bathroom alone. No comments allowed on that one, either.

Comic: amusing: arousing or provoking laughter
when does it get amusing?

You guys are killing me. Yes this is a comic strip, and most of the time it is funny, if you’d stop looking for only the negative things.
I mean this strip was cute, so typical of kids that age. I used to do the same thing with my friends!

Dear Diana (from yesterday),
Go to Lynn’s web site…FBORFW.com…and there you will find your answers and lots of other stuff.
Lynn has semi-retired.
She has said that there will be no more strips of where she left off with the kids grown up, but she will write a new book about them in the future.

Speaking of Garfield… you HAVE seen today’s strip, right? Now THAT’S funny! And very fitting, as well!

Freeholder1, at least it’s your mother in law at her “home”. Your wife and children at your home would be much worse!!
