“So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go
Cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane
Don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh baby, I hate to go ”
– John Denver
According to Wikipedia, John Denver was the one who wrote the song “Leaving On A Jet Plane” (originally titled “Oh Babe I Hate To Go” until his then-producer convinced him to change it) in 1966 and it was most famously recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary in 1967 (but it didn’t become a hit for them until they released it as a single in 1969).
John Denver’s version of his song was included on his 1969 debut solo album “Rhymes and Reasons.”

While “The Mamas And The Papas” also recorded this song, I have no information as to the year or the album it was on.

She may be a drama baby queen, but, she grows up to be a selfless loving human.
We’re all selfish as children.

When you fall down and nobody’s looking there’s no point in crying. Same theory here.

No, it was JD. He once said that that song had made him so much money that he and Annie were considering naming their first child “Jet Plane”.

Our grandson used to pitch fits and then look around to see who was watching. Sort of spoiled the intended purpose. :)
