Susan, I agree with you. I detest public speaking or even talking in front of a small group. I get so nervous and forget what I was going to say and the words don’t come out of my mouth even close to what I was thinking. It doesn’t faze my kids though because they’ve stood up in front of a group ever since they were small. I know LOTS of stay-at-home kids who refuse to do half of the stuff that my kids are fine with.
I know people complain about germs in day care centers, etc., but as someone who is surrounded by nurses in my personal life (and their unsolicited advice – gah!) kids getting sick at daycare is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it does no permanent damage. It can actually help build a strong immune system so they don’t get sick as often when they have to go to school. It takes a few years to build up that immune system, but people who are exposed to a lot of germs tend not to get sick that often . . . like all the nurses I know who are hacked and sneezed on 365 . . .

I grew up in a very small town. My social skills were good because everybody knew everybody and they left Santa’s “good and bad” list in the dust.
I do like Ellie’s “almost”. Lizzie’s eyes in panel 3 would reduce me to a blubbering fool.

Ellie is not quite immune, but that’s good! There is no vaccination for emotions. There’s only natural immunity, acquired through experience.

@prfesser: I work at a daycare, and I don’t think we’ve had a case like that at all in my 4+ years there. It may be more of an isolated incident.
