Very often I wrap a small gift inside another box and then wrap that one in another box, etc. until it becomes a HUGE box. It’s fun to see my niece or nephew open each box until they get to the actual gift, often a large denomination of money.to buy whatever they want.
My dad had a very small present for Mom. When she picked it up she found a string attached. The string went through a hole in the floor. After tracing the string around the basement, she finally found her present, an electric sewing machine. And before you say anything; her current sewing machine was a treadle powered machine.
My husband always guesses his gift before he opened it, so this year, instead of a bow, I put some Christmas bells on his present, so all he hears is the jingle of the bells! I’m hoping it works!
I agree… just like a kid. Let him have fun. My dad was similar – he was a dentist who liked acting like a kid sometimes (when it was appropriate). I got my sense of humor from him, and he and I had great times having fun together while my mom and sister just watched.
@Raspberryice54: I just read your message of yesterday. Believe it or not, the best pizza I had was in Tel Aviv. It had lots of onions., no mushrooms or olives, both of which I hate. There’s a pizzeria a block north of me on the Grand Concourse that I tried once when I had a lot of guests. I think it’s run by Afghan immigrants.
I did that, once. Then I spent the next week going through the trash and wrapping paper looking for a $400.00 anniversery necklace that was included in the package.
One of my sisters (11 yrs older – probably 5 at the time) got up before sunrise and felt her stocking, and went back to bed sobbing. “Santa was a mean old guy – he put a stick in my stocking!!” Later in the morning, she was coaxed out of bed to discover it (among other things) was a pencil.
I once worked for WT Grant (remember them) and a customer bought a pool table – and wanted to know if we could gift-wrap it. It was in a big box, so we wrapped in in brown paper and put a bow on it. (Let’s see a kid shake that one)
A package within a package within a package can be fun for both the giver and the receiver- I did that with a gold pendant for my favorite gooberette a couple years ago, with each layer a little prettier and sparklier, to keep her attention. You don’t want to make it frustrating, though. That takes the edge off the surprise inside.
@Rasczak: Of course, New York tap is great; better than bottled water and more earth friendly. I would guess that Bronx tap water is better because it’s a little closer to it’s source in the Catskills.
The best felafel I ever ate was made by Arabs in east Jerusam. You can see them frying it in a huge cauldron filled with oil.
This brings back memories of better time. When we had a Christmas tree, good holiday foods and presents under the tree. And a piano for one of them to play.that was the good old days when my kids were at home. we didn’t have expensive things, my kids think we were poor. THey don’t know what poor is until they are 60+ and under the poverty line. .
I knew that my younger sister would not resist shaking the box that I put her Christmas present in. So I filled it with random stuff so that it would make weird and puzzling noises. It worked, she went for that box first. I taped an envelope to the lid which of course she would toss aside. The envelope contained a round trip ticket to San Francisco where soon to be husband lived.

For us I get somewhat disappointed when I do not get something wraped more for fun.

Just put pieces of broken glass in it. When he shakes it and hears the noise, he’ll think he broke it and maybe it’ll cure him of doing that again.
