How did Lizzy get out of the basket?I am not sure, but don’t think Daddywas able at time to remove her. Risky climbing out of grocery cart. High up, steel, and unstable. ( Think“roll”)

Hi there!Just like to say, those of you who were so angry at what I wrote yesterday misunderstood what I wrote. If you feel like finding out how I really think about anti-Elly attitudes, just click back on what I wrote a few days ago on the FBOW forum.-I HATE anti-Elly comments. After all, I am a woman. I’m sorry some of you didn’t recognize my sarcasm.

I love imperfect people- which is good, since I definitely am one! Perfect people in cartoons drive me nuts. I don’t even read them.

Very true. Swift was verbally pilloried because people couldn’t even recognize “A Modest Proposal” as satire.

“I’m a woman too, and I HATE Elly Patterson! It’s one thing to be all for “sisterhood”, but it’s quite another thing when the “sister” is a nagging, complaining bitch!”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Walk a mile in her shoes. And judge not lest ye be judged.(The second sentence is plagiarized.)

’I HATE anti-Elly comments. After all, I am a woman. I’m sorry some of you didn’t recognize my sarcasm.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It’s very easy to see the intended sarcasm by the person’s facial expression. Sometimes, it is pretty difficult to recognize sarcasm in text, or the phone. Don’t feel too bad — at one time or the other, we’ve all done it.

Hi. everyone,I just want to apologize for all the garbled stuff I just managed to put on this comment page. And it all started by the fact that I wanted to insert the simple word, ‘easy.’There is no ‘edit’ button – it might have been a lot easier if there had been.

“On this comic it seems people read a lot of their own personal lives into things and it’s reflected in the comments…”

Wise observation. Frankly, I don’t see why anyone would reasonably hate either Ellie or John. Their imperfections help us laugh at ourselves.

On the other hand, I suppose directing one’s hate to comic strip characters is preferable to doing so toward real people, and it probably provides an outlet for some.

Like many here, I also read my own experiences into this and other strips. My own marriage was not happy (and he has left the planet) but I have had a great friend who was sometimes my lover and now may have found one here in the area where I choose to live. (wish me well). I don’t believe in marriage unless children are expected to be produced, so I may be considered a “sinner” by many (oh, well).

I see Elly and John’s relationship as it is/was with no judgments either way, although I have always preferred being a submissive wife/GF.

I’ll probably be banned from this board again for trying to communicate with you, but I’ll try this anyway.-Today there was a huge gathering of everyday people and celebrities in South Africa, celebrating the life of a man who could, legitimately, have spent his older years as a bitter and angry person. He had been imprisoned and tortured because he was working against an unjust system in his country.-But instead of letting his anger direct his life, he spent years creating a country where previously opposed racial groups reconciled. He always said he was no saint, but his example is not only worth examining; it gave him peace in his old age.

He lived to the age of 95, but not everyone has that opportunity. Life is suprisingly short for many of us. My birth father died at age 40, of the digestive disorder he inherited from his parents and passed on to me. I’m sure he thought he would have longer to reconcile with family members who had caused his family grief when his mother was left a young, sick widow.

Your choice, but the fact is, it’s one thing to stew in your own rage. It’s another to constantly offer that rage up as commentary to others.

Yes, it’s easiest for me to try to just scroll on past and I will continue to do so. But words are strong poison, even when we try to ignore them.

Yup, I will do another story spoiler. Elly gets her comeuppance in later years when she deals with a bad employee, prefering to think well of her and the idea that “only men are bad”. Despite her most experienced employee (also a woman) mistrusting the young girl, Elly ignores the concerns for the sake of feminism. When the excretia does hit the fan, Elly has to face the music: “Sisters are screwing it for themselves!” :P

Lynn Johnston said she would not have Elly divorce because two divorces were enough for her; she did not need to create a third divorce through her “imaginary family”.

Are not comics on the most part an extension of ‘Slap-Stick’? This particular incident was not in any way meant to reflect a battle between the sexes, but unfortunately there are those out there who prefer to not see humor in much of anything. Sad.

You probably won’t get this response unless you look back a day, but I am argy.bargy 2 because there is actually someone out there who is argy.bargy… that was actually me on a previous server, and I couldn’t delete it. This screen name is just so easy for me to remember, I want to keep using it. It’s an Aussie phrase and I get a kick out of it.
