In my grade school we had a teacher monitor the lunch shift. One particular teacher, a notoriously nasty battleaxe, insisted kids eat everything they had, and we had to show her our plates and lunch bags to verify it.One day a kid who bought hot lunch told her that the beets made him sick. She insisted he eat them.He did. And when he went up to show her his empty plate, he hurled all over her.
Given the obesity epidemic, people complaining that kids should be forced to clean their plates should probably rethink their opinions. Just don’t let them eat crap in lieu of nutritious stuff.

My wife’s mother did the cooking in her house and her father was a professional cook, but she was an excellent cook from the start of our marriage. Her only explanation was that she watched. We currently split it three ways, she cooks, I cook, we both fix something quickly that each wants.
