Usually when Lynn Johnston does these litany of names, those are all taken from people that she knew personally. We have seen her use “Lucia” or “Luccia” before for her childhood friend Luccia.

It must be a different Elizabeth for whom they’re calling. Then again, there must be another Elizabeth Deborah Patterson.

Took our grandson with us to FL one year. He left his glasses on a table by the pool. We went immediately back down to get them.. They were gone, and not turned in. Cost me something like $80 to replace when we got back to OHIO…

I remember going to the beach, me, my mom and my brother. We took the bus because we didn’t have a car. Later when we got home, we found that I left my sand pail and shovel on the bus. Mother was not amused.

I used to pay around $300 in Florida and in California. Have now discovered big box stores are the places to go.

Lost my glasses once. They turned up in our van’s glovebox a month later.

I missed posting Lynn’s Comments on Thursday. So here it is:

One of the best things about summer camp for me was the bus ride there and back. The laughter, the singing, eating damp sandwiches (flattened in waxed paper bundles), hanging onto best friends who were strangers a week ago—what fun that was. After 65 years, the smell and the sounds of that long bus ride can be conjured up as if it all happened yesterday. Summer camp. It’s a wonderful rite of passage.

    And here’s today’s:

These are all names from my elementary school days. Luccia (I spelled her name incorrectly in the strip), Ruby and Laurel are still good friends today. When we get together, we all see each other as being much the same as we were in grades one and two and all the way through high school. What a joy it is to see them now!

Duck, it looks like you were correct.

A good friend of mine I’ve known since 8th grade came to visit us for an extended weekend with her husband and their teenage son. We took a day trip to an amusement park to ride roller coasters. He lost his glasses on one of the rides. We were sure it was somewhere under the coaster so my husband jumped the fence and searched UNDER THE ROLLER COASTER WHERE ALL THE PEOPLE WERE STILL RIDING IT for this kids glasses. Never found them. When we got back to our house, decided to watch a movie and this poor kid had to sit on a beanbag about 2 feet from the tv to see anything. Poor thing…he felt terrible.

Two years ago, I was climbing out of my Explorer in my own drive way and was changing to my clear tri-focals from my prescription tri-focal, dark driving glasses and I dropped my clear glasses which tumbled off my leg and onto the concrete just as my foot hit the concrete and I stepped directly on them putting deep scratches on both lenses. Not only kids are hard on glasses; so are OLD COOTS! Cost me $700 to replace them!
