My mother-in-law had an enormous freezer. When the family moved from Manitoba to Ontario, we had to defrost many years worth of baking and fish and frozen leftovers. Some of the pies had dates on them from 10 years past or more. It was like an archaeological dig! After this funny experience, I decided I’d never have a big freezer of my own.
My freezer is not frost free, which means it gets cleaned out every couple of months. If there is something in there more than 6 months old, it gets used asap. There is nothing in there any older than that. If I had a frost-free one, I think maybe I might be in Ellie’s position.
Not sure if she is doing new strips, but a funny new one could be in memoriam to Alex Trebek. In it, Elly is a contestant on Jeopardy, but ends up losing everything on the final jeopardy question as she had no clue what is was. The last panel could say “Little did Elly know that the day after she dropped out of school, there was a class that talked about that very question!”
We never overfill our freezer. We use everything we keep there. When it starts to look empty, then we get more stuff. We usually cook enough food so we don’t have much leftover, and those usually we eat the next day. Wasting food seems like a terrible thing to do.
Hey Lynn, not to slice things too thinly but I thought the strip got a reboot a few years back by resetting everything back to an earlier time and growing with the family again from then. The absence of more current devices like cell phones has been noticeable in this last reincarnation of the strip so it was noticeable when the references in today’s strip were a just a few years ago. Great strip, though. I look forward to it.

what were the foods’ original years in the strip’s original publishing? (also, did all that stuff get freezer burn?)

She did not have to change the years

Yes – cleaning out the freezer is a liberating thing. Also applies to the refrigerator.

Ah yes. The famous freezer time capsule. Literally, frozen in time.

I was forced to do this last month when my refrigerator broke suddenly. I found things that are clearly over 10 years old on the deep end.

Few frozen may need tossed. Aw those memories.

Strange eating often means letting go.

Now that’s interesting. The strip’s been in reruns since 2010.

We had to clean out our freezer when we sold our house to move into an RV. It really was like an archaeological dig.
