Here is one message from Jesus preaching the Sermon on the Mount:
“Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few." (Matthew 7:13-14).
Jesus was letting people know then (and now) that salvation is simple, but salvation is not easy. Simply pointing to Jesus and saying “I believe” is not enough. One must repent and earnestly seek to sin no more. Then, through God’s grace and mercy, if it is His will, you can enter into God’s Kingdom. The voluntary sacrifice Jesus made for our sins is the redemptive power. But each of us needs to try to remove sin from our lives. THAT is the “narrow gate”.
