Andy: Whatcha doing? Andy: Writing a list of summer chores for the kids. I do it every year, although I don't know why I bother. I nag and yell and they still only do about one percent of what I ask. Roger: In that case, might I offer a suggestion? Andy: Peter, I'll be expecting you to mow the lawn 100 times a week... Peter: What?!
This is counter-intuitive, actually. the reason he’ll do 1% of a normal job is that he figures it’s a pretty small effort. But if you give him a job that’s overwhelming when fully carried out, he will think that each job will be as hard as all 100 put together. So say goodbye to that 1%, Andy.
