Oh, my goodness…I remember actually trying the “book under the pillow” trick. (Spoiler alert: didn’t work.) Not for math, tho; I was really good at math.
I wish I could have had a calculator in High School or Junior High level math (mid to late 1960’s). In college level Physics, a few of the well-to-do kids had calculators (I remember them having to plug them in to floor outlets in the lecture hall during tests!). I think the go-to device was the Hewlett-Packard HP-35 (I still have mine – college graduation gift!).
